Your current passport has not been damaged in any way AND

Your passport was issued for a term of less than 5 years (usualy a one year passport). AND

Your passport was issued less than a year ago. (Passports issued over a year ago should be done as a passport renewal).

How to go about getting your passport re-issued will depend on why it was limited in the first place. Please choose the case below that matches your circumstances.

The U.S. Passport office formaly did a procedure commonly known as extending the validity of a passport. Due to the new seciruty features built into passports, they no longer extend an existing passport, they re-issue it completely.

The U.S. Passport office normaly writes down the reason for the limited issue passport on one of the passports back amendment pages.
