India Tourist Visas: Houston

Current Passport

Applicant must submit their current passport. India tourist visas are stamped into a passport, therefore the India Embassy requires the original passport.

Note: In order to obtain India tourist visas, passport must have two (2) blank visa pages (preferably facing pages) and must not expire within the next six months. If you require US passport services, please visit our expedited US passport services section.

India Tourist Visa Photo Requirement

The India Embassy requires two (2) identical passport style photographs taken within the last 6 months. Visa photos should not be the same used for the passport.

The Indian Embassy will not accept visa photos in which the applicant is wearing glasses.

Proof of Travel to India

Applicant must submit a computer-generated itinerary from a travel agency or online booking agency showing departure from the U.S. and arrival/departure in India.

Birth Certificate

Applicant must submit a photocopy (not an original) of a birth certificate. This requirement was created on Jan 14, 2010 for unknown reasons.

For Non-US born applicants that do not have their birth certificate, provide a copy of a document issued by Government authorities. This document could be an old (not current) passport or a school leaving certificate etc., provided it shows their personal particulars like name, date of birth, parents names, and nationality.

Proof of Residency

Applicant must submit legible color copy of their driver's license or state issued ID. If applicant has recently moved and not updated their ID, applicant must also provide a recent utility bill.

Non-US Citizen Requirement

If applicant is not a US citizen, applicant must submit a legible color copy of valid Alien Registration Card (Green Card) or US visa.

Note: Non-US citizens will only be issued 6 month visas.

For applicants with US visas, applicant must prove 2+ years of current visa status in US or they will be required to apply in their country of citizenship.

When completing the online visa application listed below, all Non-US applications must use their last known address in their country of citizenship as "Permanent Address" and current US address under "Present Address".

India Tourist Visa Application

Applicant must complete and online application as well as a supplemental form. After completing the online application, applicant must print and sign confirmation page.

Note: Name used for application must match name on passport exactly.

Note: Applicant must review completed application. If mistakes are found, application must be re-submitted. Corrections to confirmation page will result in rejection of application.

Persons of Indian Origin: In addition, applicants born in India applying for the first time on ANY U.S. passport must submit their Indian passport and a completed renunciation form OR submit their expired US passport with a previously issued Indian visa if applicable. Persons of Indian origin must also apply for entry visas as apposed to tourist or business visas. The duration selected MUST be 6 months. There is an additional fee of $175 payable to the Indian Embassy and an additional processing fee of $55 by ItsEasy. The renunciation process can take between 4 and 10 business days on average.

Persons of Bangladeshi Origin: In addition, Special Visa application form should be filled in by citizens of Bangladesh (2 copies with 2 additional photos). Click here to complete the Bangladesh form
