India Tourist Visas: San Francisco

Current Passport

Applicant must submit their current passport. India tourist visas are stamped into a passport, therefore the India Embassy requires the original passport.

Note: In order to obtain India tourist visas, passport must have two (2) blank visa pages (preferably facing pages) and must not expire within the next six months. If you require US passport services, please visit our expedited US passport services section.

India Tourist Visa Photo Requirement

The India Embassy requires two (2) identical passport style photographs taken within the last 6 months. Visa photos should not be the same used for the passport.

The Indian Embassy will not accept visa photos in which the applicant is wearing glasses.

Proof of Travel to India

Applicant must submit a computer-generated itinerary from a travel agency or online booking agency showing departure from the U.S. and arrival/departure in India.

Proof of Residency

Applicant must submit legible color copy of their driver's license or state issued ID. If applicant has recently moved and not updated their ID, applicant must also provide a recent utility bill (water, sewer, electric).

Non-US Citizen Requirement

If applicant is not a US citizen, applicant must submit a legible color copy of valid Alien Registration Card (Green Card) or US visa.

Note: Non-US Citizens may only apply for a one-year multiple entry visa

For applicants with US visas, applicant must prove 2+ years of current visa status in US or they will be required to apply in their country of citizenship.

When completing the online visa application listed below, all Non-US applications must use their last known address in their country of citizenship as "Permanent Address" and current US address under "Present Address".

India Tourist Visa Application

Applicant must complete and online application as well as a supplemental form. After completing the online application, applicant must print and sign confirmation page.

Note: Name used for application must match name on passport exactly.
Note: Address on application must match address listed on drivers license.

Note: Applicant must review completed application. If mistakes are found, application must completed from scratch. Corrections to confirmation page will result in rejection of application.

Minors: The visa application must be signed by both parents and a copy of both parents' signed passports must be submitted. A copy of a parent's driver's license or utility bill can be used for proof of residential address in the US.

Persons of Indian Origin: In addition, applicants born in India must provide either proof of citizenship renunciation or must submit their Indian passport and two completed renunciation forms. Click here to complete the Renunciation form. If applicant does not have previous Indian passport, applicant must also submit a notarized affidavit of loss. Click here for the Affidavit of Loss form. Applicant must include an additional $175 money order made payable to the "Embassy of India". The renunciation process can take an additional 2 and 6 business days on average.

Persons of Indian origin must also apply for entry visas as apposed to tourist or business visas. The duration selected MUST be 6 months.

Persons of Bangladeshi Origin: In addition, Special Visa application form should be filled in by citizens of Bangladesh (2 copies with 2 additional photos). Click here to complete the Bangladesh form.

Persons of Pakistani Origin: In addition, Special Visa application form should be filled in by citizens of Pakistani (4 copies with 4 additional photos). Click here to complete the Pakistan form. Additionally, processing times may take upwards of one month.
