For US citizens a valid passport and valid Indian visa to enter and exit India for any purpose. Most visitors, including those on official U.S. government business, must apply for visas at an Indian embassy or consulate abroad before entering the country. U.S. citizens seeking to enter India solely for tourist purposes, and who plan to stay no longer than 30 days, may apply for an electronic travel authorization at least four days prior to their arrival in lieu of applying for a tourist visa at an Indian embassy or consulate.

ItsEasy maintains the visa requirements to all countries, including India. Use the widget above to see your particular requirements for visiting India based upon your citizenship and state of residence in the USA.

India: eVisa or Traditional Paper Visas

The new India eVisa is very cool, and available to most anyone.

1.1  Passport

Applicant must submit their current, signed passport. Visas are stamped into a passport, therefore the original passport is required.

The passport must have two (2) blank visa pages and be valid for at least six (6) months at the time of application and through the duration of the trip upon arrival (although six months past the date of exit from India is highly advised to avoid issues upon entry).

1.2  Photo Requirement

Applicant must submit two (2) identical, color, passport style photographs. The photos must be recent and generally should not be the same used for the passport itself.

Note: The Indian Embassy will not accept visa photos if applicant is wearing glasses.

1.3  Proof of Travel

Applicant must submit a computer-generated itinerary from a travel agency or online booking tool (such as an e-confirmation or online booking) showing departure from the US and arrival/departure for the destination.

Note, if traveling via private charter the charters manifest should suffice.

1.4  Proof of Residency

Applicant must submit a legible color copy of their driver's license or state issued ID.

If applicant does not have a state issued ID or has recently moved and not updated their ID, applicant must also provide a recent utility bill (sewer, water, electric).

Please note that completed applications must be returned to address provided on Proof of Residency without exception.

1.5  Special Notice

Persons of Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani origin, please view the following link for additional information

1.6  Applicants Under 18yrs

Although applicant may be submitting documents along with other family members, when submitted to an embassy or consulate, applications are treated individually. If applicant is under 18 years old, please view the following link.

1.7  Applicants Under 18yrs

If applicant is less than 18 years old, applicant must submit completed, signed and NOTORIZED authorization form. Although not clearly indicated, BOTH parents (or one parent with supporting custody documentation) must sign the form.

1.8  Supplemental Form

Applicant must submit one completed, two page form. Print the documents (single sided) using the link below.

The first page MUST be completed by typing into the fields on the fillable pdf.

For the question "Place", answer with your physical location, such as "Chicago" or "Houston". An original signature is required on both pages.

The declaration form states that documentation must be provided for any name changes. This does not apply to name changes by marriage. All other name changes (divorce, adoption, court decree, etc) must be supported.

1.9  Visa Application Guide

We provide an "Application Guide". It is very important that the instructions are followed. Failure to follow the instructions exactly will result in rejection of the application.

It is highly recommended applicant print the Application Guide and reference it while completing the visa application.

1.10  Visa Application

Applicant must complete an online application. After completing the online application, applicant must print and sign BOTH pages (the first page is signed up the small rectangular box towards the upper right, the second page is signed on the signature line. Note additional requirements for signatures for minors listed in the application guide above).

Clicking the link below will open a new window. To begin the application, click the orange button on the left side titled "Regular Visa Application". Any errors, no matter how small, will result in application being denied. Please review the "Application Guide" provided above before and while completing the online application.

SPECIAL NOTICE: When completing the application, applicant MUST enter their phone number, cell phone number and email address. Although these fields are not required, the consulate will reject any application without them. The phone and cell phone may be the same number.
